Create restore point manually in windows

Continue  my previous post that I would like to tell how to create restore point on windows. Today I’m gonna write about it. Just like before because of a lot of works this post is published little bit late. Ok now go straight to the point. In windows restore point usually is created automatically after we installing or updating a new software. The restore point is quite important in windows OS. It will help you to get back to the certain point when your windows has a trouble. For creating restore point manually just go to your computer – properties. Then choose system protection like shown in the picture below. Click create button then type the restore point name. Finish, it’s quite easy isn’t it?

Biggest anti virus quarantine

I recently struggled again with virus on my office’s server. Since the AV on the server didn’t update regularly, there were abundant viruses inside. The server condition deteriorated because I ignored the AV updates and I didn’t realize that the computer had been attacking by virus. First time I figured out that there was something wrong when I copied files from server and my laptop detected virus from those copied files.

After ensured that my laptop free from virus, I checked the server and of course there were abundant of virus over there. The computer was infected by Ramnit virus. This virus will infect exe, dll, and html file. I had scanned the computer with current AV, but it didn’t work well. The computer was still slow down and the hd ran out of space. Then I tried to scan with special Ramnit virus remover. I thought the computer had been clear and the viruses had gone away, but the disk space was still extremely low. I searched through out the folders to find out where the trouble is.

The AV quarantine obviously had blown up the disk space. I forgot to setup up the AV to remove the infected files automatically so the quarantine become bigger and bigger. It took almost 14 GB of disk space. That was the biggest virus quarantine I had ever seen. I spent almost two days to purge the quarantine. From now on, be aware with AV updates and any abnormal process of your computer .

How to create ppt from several images???

• create new blank presentations
• from menu insert, click photo album -> new album
• then select your images by click File/Disk…
• now you can change the picture order, add the picture caption, the picture layout, and also the presentation theme
• if you’ve done just click create button

Update manual BitDefender

Di ITS ada banyak software yang telah berlisensi dan halal dipakai oleh civitas ITS. Salah satunya adalah anti virus dan ITS memakai BitDefender untuk sistem operasi windows. Sehingga untuk melakukan update tidak perlu jauh ke vendor-nya, cukup diarahkan ke servernya ITS.

Namun beberapa bulan ini update anti virus BitDefender ke server ITS agak bermasalah. Biasanya hampir tiap hari pasti ada update terbaru, tapi entah kenapa dan mengapa setiap kali di-update pasti “No update available”. Sempat mencoba update langsung ke vendornya tapi tetap tidak bisa. Apa software anti virusnya yang bermasalah?? Hmm dari pada kelamaan mikir, keburu diserang virus, akhirnya pakai cara zaman dulu, cara manual.Berikut ini langkah-langkah untuk meng-update BitDefender secara manual:

1. Download file update terbaru dari sini.
2. Dari link di atas akan ada beberapa versi BitDefender, pilih yang sesuai dengan versi yang anda gunakan.
3. Kemudian download file cumulative.zip dan extract semua isinya.
4. Replace file yang ada di D:\Program Files\Common Files\Softwin\BitDefender Scan Server\Plugins dengan semua file yang telah di-extract sebelumnya. (sesuaikan drive tempat Program Files)
5. Update anti virus anda seperti biasanya melalui tab Update dan klik tombol check.
6. Update BitDefender telah selesai.

Mengganti license key windows

Bagi yang menggunakan system operasi windows, tentunya sudah tahu bahwa jika license key yang digunakan tidak sesuai alias “bajakan”, otomatis windows tidak akan bisa melakukan update secara online atupun menginstall beberapa patch dan service pack.

Bagaimana jika hal windows anda sudah terinstall, haruskah install ulang untuk mengganti license key nya dengan yang valid? Ternyata tidak perlu serepot itu. Beberapa hari yang lalu saya dapat tutorialnya dari sini. Dalam tutorial itu ada dua cara yang dibahas, namun disini hanya akan saya tulis satu caranya saja yang menurut saya paling gampang.

1. Masuklah ke registry windows, dengan cara klik start -> run, ketik regedit
2. Carilah point registry berikut ini : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\Current Version\WPAEvents
3. Klik kanan pada OOBETimer dan pilih modify
4. Ganti digit terakhir dengan nilai terserah. Ini digunakan untuk menonaktifkan windows
5. Buka perintah Run kembali dan ketikkan nilai ini : %systemroot%\system32\oobe\msoobe.exe /a
6. Klik Yes, I want to telephone a customer service representative to activate Windows. Kemudian silahkan telpon ke Microsoft dulu dan minta product key yang asli bukan bajakan (hehe…) dan then click Next.
7. Klik Change Product Key
8. Masukkan Product Key yang baru, kemudian klik Update. Kembalilah ke window dialog sebelumnya dan klik Remind me later dan restart computer anda.
9. Ulangi langkah no 5, maka windows anda sudah aktif kembali dengan license key yang baru.

Note:
Sebaiknya jangan gunakan software bajakan, lebih baik pakailah software open source. Klo kepepet gmn?? Jawab sendiri aja klo ini… hehee…
